The miracle of crossover!

The G-Strings have cast aside the boundaries set by classical music. Since its foundation in 1993 the quintet has systematically played against the grain of established ways of listening. Classical and jazz audiences in concert halls and in the press have enthusiastically celebrated the group's innovative crossings between E and U-music.

This is in no small degree due to the varied nature of their ranging from Astor Piazzolla's “Tangos Nuevo” to jazz and rock classics, from Dizzy Gillespie, Steely Dan and Mother's Finest to standards by George Gershwin and Duke Ellington. According to the music journal “Fono Forum” the G-Strings' “congenial misappropriation” is fascinating.

The G-Strings do not play a classical quintet's cast. Equal play the musicians together and create a sparkling firework. Their soundeffects are amazing: Choping, pitching, scratching their instruments, the G-Strings imitate a drumnset. They match expresison and sound of an electric guitar and even cerate a deceivingly realistic samaba pipe.” described the Frankfurter Rundschau the G-String's play with illusion.

The “Paradisebirds” have performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the Shanghai Music Festival, Westport/Technics Jazzport Hamburg, and at the festival “Jazz in Hamburg”. They have also appeared at EXPO 2000, the Schleswig Holstein Musikfestival, the Rheingau Musikfestival, the cross-over festival “Strings of Fire” at the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Euregio festival.

The Quintet's first studio album was released in 1996. It centered on a string portrait of the “King of Tango” Astor Piazzolla. According to one magazine this was “a Piazzolla at least as real as its original.” Their second CD appeared in March 2000, a mixture of jazz/rock/pop classics and new arrangements. On this disc musical milestones erected by The Dregs, Mother's Finest, Steely Dan, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Singers Unlimited, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington are re-explored along with hits by Incognito and Jamiroquai. (CD “Made on Strings” / EMI 7243 5 21581)

According to the press “this CD is addictive”. The Hamburger Abendblatt was fascinated by the “crazy and exciting arrangements” and the well known Swiss music Journal Jazz'n`more described how the “Drive, the perfect timing” made the “sparkling musical firework of this cheekily arranged classic breathless”.

The G-Strings live and studio partners include: Chaka Khan, Ray Charles, Bobby Mc Ferrin, Randy Crawford, Gloria Estefan, Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Die IJzte, Udo Lindenberg, The Cultured Pearls, Selig, Illegal 2001, Achim Reichel, Sasha, Echt, Orange Blue, Susi Hyldgaard, Palle Danielsson, “Mr Redhorn”, Nils Landgren, José Carreras, Luis di Matteo and Christoph Eschenbach.

For the first time Latvian jazz singer Intars Busulis takes part in the concert of the G-Strings.
