1. Prizewinner at the International ARD Competition 2000
Coloratura mezzo-soprano

Born in 1975 in Ukrainian Lemberg, Zoryana Kushpler initially learned piano at the age of five from her mother before switching to the violin. In 1993 she completed her violin studies and began to study voice in 1995 at the Lemberg Conservatory with Professor Kushpler. Shortly after entering the faculty she debuted at the Opera in Lemberg as Rosina in the Barber of Sevilla and as Maddalena in Rigoletto.

1998 brought Zoryana Kushpler to the Hochschule for Music in Hamburg where she joined the class of Professor Judith Beckmann. During this time she gave performances and participated at masterclasses given by Teresa Breganza and others. Since 2000 Zoryana Kushpler holds a scholarship from the Oscar- and Vera-Ritter-Foundation. She will conclude her voice studies during the season 2002/2003.

In September 2000 Zoryana Kushpler won the first prize at the ARD Competition in Munich preceded by the first prize at the Elise-Meyer Competition in Hamburg in 1999.

Together with her twin sister pianist Olena Kushpler she has given various successful recitals during the 2001/2002 season. The duo was guests at the Rheingau Music Festival, the Festival in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and the Hamburg Musikhalle as well as in Recklinghausen and Kassel.

In a highly praised production of Cosi fan tutte at the Hamburg Hochschule she sang the roll of Dorabella.

As part of the renown Clubhouse Concerts Zoryana Kushpler went on tour with the Radio Orchestras of Warsaw and Krakow under the direction of Wojcez Rajski throughout Switzerland including performances at the Tonhalle in Zurich, Casino in Basel and Victoria Hall in Genf. She has performed the Sieben Lieder aus Letzter Zeit together with Stefan Sanderling and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mainz.

She can be heard during the 2002/2003 season at the Wartburg (Eisenach) promoted by Deutschland Radio Berlin as well as soloist in Hamburg at the Musikhalle and during the Musikfestspiele Saar. She will once again be a part of the opera production of Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia at the Hamburg Musikhochschule.

Olena Kushpler

Olena Kushpler was born in 1975 in Lemberg (Ukrain) and received her first piano lessons at the age of five from her mother. At the age of seven she began composition with Professor Fliss: She gave her debut in 1987 performing Beethoven´s first piano Concerto with the Lemberg Philharmonic. From 1993 on she studied at M. Lissenko-Conservatory in Lemberg with Professor Josef Yermin changing schools in 1997 to the Hamburg Musikhochschule by Professor Barfield and then in the year 2000 by Professor Koroliov. Recitals brought her to the Horowitz Festival in Kiev in 1997 and the Fortepiano-Festival in Bydgoscz (Poland) in 1999.

Since 1998 Olena Kushpler works intensively with her sister mezzo-soprano Zoryana Kushpler and has been emphatically praised as accompanist by the Jury of the ARD Competition. Numerous solo performances have brought her together with the Lemberg Philharmonic Orchestra as well as with other orchestras and her chamber music experiences have seen her at the festivals in the Rheingau, in the Tonhalle Dusseldorf, in the Ruhrfestspielhaus Recklinghausen as well as in the Musikhalle Hamburg to name a few.
