Michiel Borstlap is one of the most interesting phenomena in contemporary jazz music. He enjoys a profile rare among jazz musicians, and is also a published author, Esquire columnist and film composer. The Emir of Qatar commissioned him to compose the world’s first Opera in Arabic (in 2006 Borstlap wrote a book Opera in Qatar about these adventures).
The Guardian wrote: Borstlap’s balance between accessible grooving and mysterious speculation is subtly sustained, and he the improvisational surprises just keep coming.
