Vivaldi‘s Four Seasons and film music
The event of “I Musici” is something extraordinary and difficult to repeat. It’s the oldest chamber group still active. They opened the way of Italian 18th century music to the whole world. They made Vivaldi’s Four Seasons become one of the most famous compositions of the entire musical repertoire, being the first to record this masterpiece of Vivaldi and selling over 25 million copies in various editions. They also recorded the first classical music CD for Philips. They filmed the first classical music video in the 70s and they carried Rome’s name, of course Italy’s and Italian music to five continents, roving with their repertoire from the 18th to the 20th centuries. Many important compositions were dedicated to them too by composers as Nino Rota, Valentino Bucchi, Louis Bacalov, Ennio Morricone and many others.
At present I Musici are regular guests at the most important international festivals and they carry out an intense concert activity in prestigious theaters and concert halls such as: “G Enescu” International Festival in Bucharest, Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Centre in New York, the “Spring Festival” in Budapest, Sunthory Hall and Opera City in Tokyo, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Philharmonie in Berlin, Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, Seoul Arts Centre, Boston Symphony Hall, Shanghai Concert Hall and numerous others.
I Musici have recorded exclusively for Philips for many years. Their disc production, a true mine of compositions from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries has repeatedly been awarded prizes by specialised juries. These have included the Grand Prix de l’Academie Charles Cros, Grand Prix International du Disque, the Edison Award, Deutsche Schallplattenpreis and the Grand Prix des Discophiles. Their production of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi won the Platinum Disc with inset diamond.
During the concert season of 2011/2012, the ensemble will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its foundation.
