Concert cycles

Urbi et Orbi

The cycle of concerts To the City and the World was conceived to celebrate the Riga’s 800th anniversary in 2001. However, it has turned into one of the most vivid colours in the sound palette of Riga. Due to the cycle, words of the Pope Urbi et Orbi (To the City and the World) have got a touch of special importance for the image of Riga.

The aim of the cycle is to show the art of the Riga born world-known musicians so as to give them a chance to perform in their native town with the local colleagues, as well as to enrich the concert life in the city.

More than 60 concerts with approximate attendance of 40 000 listeners on the whole have taken place in Riga and other Latvian cities.

The main moment in the existence of the cycle is to create mutual understanding in the cultural environment of Riga. Undoubtedly, the cycle has its future.
